Lyrics

Joanna Newsom - "Cosmia"

When you ate i saw your eyelashes
Saw them shake like wind on rushes
In the corn field when she called me
Moths surround me - thought they'd drown me

And i miss your precious heart
And i miss your precious heart

Dried rose petals, red round circles
Frame your eyes, and stain your knuckles
Dried rose petals, red round circles
Frame your eyes, and stain your knuckles

Why've you gone away, away
Seven suns, seven suns
Away, away, away, away

Can you hear me, will you listen
Don't come near me, don't go missin'
And in the lissome light of evenin'
Help me cosmia, I'm grievin'

And all those lonely nights down by the river
Brought me bread and water, and the kith and the kin
Now in the quiet hour when I am sleeping
I cannot keep the night from comin' in

Beneath the porch light we've all been circlin'
Beat our dust hearts, singe our flower wings
But in the corner, somethin' is happenin'
Wild cosmia - what have you seen?

Water were your limbs, and fire was your hair
And then the moonlight caught your eye
And you rose through the air
Well if you've seen true light, then this is my prayer, oh;
Will you call me when you get there?

And i miss your precious heart
And i miss your precious heart
And miss, and miss, and miss, and miss,
And miss, and miss, and miss, and miss your heart
But release your precious heart
To its feast, oh precious heart

Notes

I picked up this song from vonnie_k a day or two after seeing the movie and found myself sucked back into it whether I was ready or not. Thankfully I suppose, into a rather more edited version of the worlds that actually exist in the movie.

The source is gorgeous to say the least, and I hoped that the tenor of Newsom's vocals would give the stunning visuals a little bit of an edge, even as the general tone of the music transformed others. For me, the song was Ofelia's otherworld luring her home. Minus the too shiny bow (IMO) the movie wrapped that up with.

Plus now I can essentially watch the movie over without getting quite so creeped out every time. ;)
