Think of al the sweetly 'shippy "he might, but she doesn't, or does she?" fics you've ever read, then factor in a heaping helping of "they're both floundering about with the biggest case of denial the universe has ever seen but just wait cos it's inevitable if they spend enough time together" stories, then add a mighty dash of "we're only being snarky to keep from snogging each other silly" drabbles, stir vigorously with a healthy addition of plot involving Wilf, a character we've just recently been introduced to and an OC who your feelings for change abruptly mid-story and this is the BEST PIECE OF FANFIC MASQUERADING AS A BOOK I'VE EVER SEEN ( ... )

Ah...it's an actual book? *googles* *Double Ah* Jenny Colgan, I could tell from the author notes in the audiobook she's a shipper, LOL. Am ordering it now. Crikey, not cheap is it?! Guess it has been too long since I spent money on an actual physical book instead of just kindle!

There's a Kindle version.

Hm. I didn't find the book to be shippy at all. It did affirm the Doctor and Donna's devotion to each other more than the show did, but I didn't find it to be a romantic devotion - to me, it was a higher level than just romance. On the other hand, I will say that I thoroughly enjoyed the book, all parts of it, and I highly recommend it. Fief is just fantastic.

To sykira, note that this is a hardcover book. If the price is daunting, I recommend waiting until it comes out in paperback and/or Kindle.

Really? I'll admit I am predisposed to the ship, but there were some very telltale moments/comments made in the story that just scream deeper feeling. (I will not quote anything specific - SPOILERS!)

Well, I admit I'm predisposed not to ship at all. :) I definitely felt that there was a lot of deeper emotions than what were portrayed in the TV show, but I didn't feel they were necessarily romantic in nature. To me, the Doctor and Donna love each other, but it transcends simple human romance, a relationship of deep understanding and respect. I can see them having a romance, but that's not the part that's important to me.

SOmething's up with Kindle cuz it's charging me 9quid, and the hardcover was 10quid, Kindle is confused because I normally live in the US and use amazon.com, but this summer I'm in the UK and I've discovered I can avoid international exchange rates add on costs if I just use amazon.co.uk, but that messes with amazon prime membership *shrugs*

But also cuz of being here I actually (theoretically) have TIME to read a book this summer, so I just went ahead and gave amazon my money!

It's nice to have confirmation. I think Catherine Tate admitted it.

Romantic or platonic?

Something inbetween?

What mattered was that it was a healthy relationship.:)

I think it was something in between, actually. I know they both loved each other, but I think three things would have stood in the way of it becoming something truly romantic, outside the TV necessity of bringing Tennant and Tate's time in the TARDIS to a close.

1- Ten and his pesky "I'm a Time Lord and you're gonna die before me so I might as well stay a lonely Emo Time Lord" mindset,

2- Donna's inferiority complex and her determination not to be another 'Mad Martha', and

3- both of them fearing that if things don't work out, they'll lose the best relationship they've ever had. They'd rather stay friends forever than to risk failure and have to walk away.

My headcanon, obviously, but really? So many things in this book went well beyond the "S/He's my best Mate" category and into the "Don't you dare get between me and my Donna/Time Lord or risk the furnace of my wrath."
