Coincidences are funny. All day yesterday I was mentally writing an LJ entry about Dreamwidth, and how excited I am about it, and how I truly hope fandom will end up making the move -- or at least be as active on DW as they are on LJ.

Hell, I still have this and this and this in my open tabs because I wanted to link to these specific entries ( Read more... )

fandom, sickness, squee!, dreamwidth, work

For now only the site owners can invite people. I really got lucky. But I'll probably have invites after Open Beta starts in April 30? Then I can invite you! :)

Please PM me your email account, and as soon as I get invites I'll be sure to send one your way. :)

All right! It's been duly copied and pasted onto a virtual post-it on my desktop. And hopefully I'll get some invites soon. :)

For something I only heard about for the first time a few days ago, I'm surprised at how seriously I'm thinking about trying to snag a permanent account once they go on sale. Even though it costs just about as much as the two permanent accounts I already have, put together. I think it's that big tax refund lying in wait for me. I feel like it's already in my bank account!

I've been following the happenings at DW ever since they first started, but now that opening is REALLY CLOSE and I've seen how much they've done [I just imported my entire LJ in under 5 minutes! Incredible!], I'm really excited.

I'm not getting a seed account because I can't afford it [*g*], but I do feel they'll sell EXTREMELY FAST and they'll be covered for the first year without me. I can support them yearly just fine. :)

And it took almost an hour, but it imported all comments as well. I still can't quite believe it did that!

See, I'm not a fan of fandom moving anywhere just because I recently bought a permanent account on LJ (by which I mean at their last sale). But there are definitely some interesting things on Dreamwidth.

I don't really have any attachments to LJ itself anymore [I used to back in "no ads EVER" time]. I'm here because fandom is here, and wherever fandom go, so will I. Though Dreamwidth is the first place I've actually believe would support fandom better.

I've got clones of my LJ in all major clone-platforms [JF, insanejournal, inksome and now DW], and I always crosspost because Semagic makes it REALLY easy. :) But Dreamwidth is the first place I've actually considered turning into my MAIN journal.

Oh, I have no illusions about the entirety of fandom moving anywhere. I do like the fact that DW is gonna allow people to follow LJs on their DW flist [I think it's a done deal for unlocked posts already? And locked posts might come later, but so far it's been tricky to figure out how?], and that of course might make transition [if it ever comes] really easy. I dunno. I've been active in fandom for fifteen years now, and I've moved along with fandom enough times to know that it can be done.
