Basically, my life revolves around Stargate.
1. Watched about 3 seconds of the Oscars last night to confirm I can't look at Ellen without wanting to kill myself, so I settled for a rerun of The Fifth Element while my father rambled about Australopithecus and how he likes the Precambrian Era A LOT better than anything that came after it and it's my

But I'm already very curious as to what you think of Cameron Mitchell... Apparently a lot of those who loved Jack were a bit annoyed with him... Personally, I can't really judge because the episodes that I watched with Jack I can count on my two hands, and I don't care much for him... But I liked the dynamic very much, and the change was palpable...
Anyways... Uhm... Yeah... *blush*

I'm so glad your love of SG-1 has surpassed SGA and I think you've totally hit the nail on the head as to why SGA pales in comparison.
Defintely don't shut up about it. There's not many people on my flist who enjoy Stargate as much as me so it's nice to get some company!

I kind of want to wait and see if RDA will sign up for the movies so I can watch the last 2 seasons, you know? 'Cause if he's in the movies at least I'll have something to look forward to -- even knowing he shows up every now and then at the show, I want more. *g*

Yep. It really does. I mean, SGA is all pretty and shiny but in comparison, the characters are VERY VERY bland. It's surprising actually, considering they have the same writers... how can they write character development for one show but not the other? It boggles the mind.

I completely agree. With everything. This feels like I pulled it out of my own journal, and all my friends are like "would you stop talking about how awesome Stargate is, because we are sycophants who do not watch and also hate you."
I was hesitant about season 9, because as much as I adore Ben Browder, he was not Jack. But then I completely fell head over heels with Cameron. It's kinda like a new show, but with most of the same great things you also love about the old show, only... not. That doesn't describe it very well, I know, but just think about it as a new show, that just happens to have some characters you already love. Like a spin-off, only not really, only still better than Atlantis. I love Atlantis, but sometimes it just makes me want to weep in frustration for all that it does not do. And there are people who actually love it... who don't like SG-1. It baffles me. Really ( ... )

Exactly! That's scarily close to how I think about the show these days.
I, too, was hesitant about SG-1 without Jack, but there's immediate character development with Ben Browder's character, so it's easy to get into him as a person and easy to get back into the show on a whole.
To the point where I'm actually so very annoyed at SGA and its complete lack of any sort of meaningful character developmentI never realized how much character development was missing in SGA until you pointed it out, but now that you mention it, I'm smacking my head going, 'duh!'. I watched SGA first, and from the start I had some problems with character development -- especially Sheppard and Teyla -- but I figured it was the Gatevere's way/choice to have the plot be more important than character growth. But then I got to SG-1 and all of a sudden I'm bombarded with character depth and a ton and a half of motivation and suddenly I'm wondering why the hell the writers decided to go for mind candy with SGA when they *know* how to write for characters instead of plot alone. It boggles the mind, really.

I've never liked Teyla, so anything that had to do with her I just tuned out anyway. Really, I just feel like she's a limp, pale version of Sam and Teal'c mixed together. And her crazy!horse!eyes! drive me nuts.
But with Sheppard it is rather annoying. He's without a background, without any depth, and he's basically in the same place he was when the show started.
However, I do think McKay has developed a bit. Starting from his SG-1 days, he's definitely changed. He's getting more annoying, unfortunately, but he has grown slightly braver and less selfish. Sort of.
I am curious to know what you thought of Pete.
