you've got to fight the powers that be

You USAers probably don't need any help with the free hosting sites, but the rest of the world probably does. So. People, friends of mine. Anonymous Proxy Servers are very helpful when Sendspace is being stupid, or Megaupload is telling you to install the stupid toolbar or hey, when Mediafire suddenly stops working completely.

I'm an USAer. I too have problems with downloads. This is very helpful information. Thanks for sharing.

I seem to hardly ever use those sites for downloading anymore, torrents have once again become my default. Except for when I find really cheap deals on Amazon, which I do A LOT lately (I got Rome season 1 for less than £20, two seasons of Wire in the Blood for £16, etc.).

However, I do use those sites for uploading and Mediafire just cleaned house in a big way and deleted almost all my uploads. Grrrr! Got anything that'll fix that? ;-)

Oh, but hey, do those anonymous proxy servers mean you can download more than one file at a time from SendSpace? Because that would be awesome!

I only use torrents when the files are new. For example, I went to Campos this past weekend and didn't download anything aired Thursday-Sunday, so I got those files from free hosts. Stuff from last night was torrented though, 'cause I was back here.

re: Mediafire: I can't even get to their homepage without a proxy, so I haven't been using it to upload anything.

You know, I've never tried, but probably. One thing I know is that I haven't managed to bypass the 1GB/day limit no matter what I tried.

I've gotten past the point of caring about my ratio, because I keep a healthy buffer, and when my buffer gets too low I just leave uTorrent running for a while (meaning a couple of days, but still!)

One thing that really drives me nuts about larger files uploaded to SendSpace is that if it's a split file you have to wait for one to finish before you can start the next one. It's not so much the time it takes, but having to be there when the first one finishes that ticks me off.

I do have a 10GB buffer right now, but my uploading speeds are REALLY pathetic, so I either get in the mix with everyone immediately after the torrent is released or I'll upload nothing at all.

I hate that about Sendspace too. With Up-File, at least you can add all parts to a Downloading Manager and set them to download consecutively. I can never manage to do that with Sendspace.

Tissa, só vc mesmo! Nossa, que tutorial fantástico. 'Brigadinha! :)

Esse proxy para o Megaupload permite baixar mais do que o limite diário que eles impõem?

[Dreamhost, huh?]

Ah, a 3a. temporada de AD está $15 na Amazon. Estou me coçando...

Anytime. Mediafire is freaking FAST for me, it'd be a shame to lose it because they don't like foreigners like ourselves. :)
