and the devil too

It's interesting to watch a show somewhat detached from fandom, because I end up with completely different opinions from everybody else.

Spoilers for the Supernatural season premiere. )

I'm pretty excited for ep. 3 of Supernatural - Amber Benson as a vampire! :)

I'm somewhat worried about that, because that's the kind of fandom winking that I usually *hate*.

I am secretly very amused that fandom is so in love with John Shiban's new show. And not just the show, but John Shiban's episodes of John Shiban's new show!

Truly, redemption exists for even the worst writers sinners.

Hee! I know, right? Nevermind that I can recognize every other name in the credits as XF alumni.

Anyway. I looked it up, and Shiban wrote 4 episodes alone last season - Skin, Hookman, Scarecrow and The Benders. And he co-wrote Dead Man's Blood. I really hated the first 2 [Skin made me give up on the show, even!], but liked the other 3 all right. Still, not bad for someone who hold negative scores with the XF fandom for nine freaking years. :)

I think it's partly that he's gotten better and partly that my expectations are just different. I don't even mind Skin or Hookman, because, hey, first season episodes, pretty good character stuff in both of them - I'm easy.

I still hope they keep him away from the Mexican folklore, though.

What, you don't want the boys to hunt down El Chupacabra? They can meet a girl named Maria!

Heh. I'm actually with you on most of SPN. I don't hate John, but I'm totally glad this happened. As Boobs likes to say, I like John in small, effective doses. That said, I will be very surprised if this is the last of him.

The rescue scene! I forgot to mention that in my reactions. I gasped aloud at those seconds of color and brightness. The episode was filmed really well, I thought.

Hmm, Jericho. It took me a while to get into the second ep. They were losing me, but then it picked up near the end, and I'll probably stick with it for at least another couple of weeks. They do seem to be shoving love interests at everybody left and right, though, don't they? And Skeet's the hero, so he gets two. *eyeroll*

The thing I hate about John is that he's written as the kind of guy who hides stuff from his kids just because he can. And that looks A LOT like lazy writing for me [if he explained, then we'd have no show, right? So he stays all "mysterious" and I cringe at the scripts].

I also doubt this is the last we've seen of him. This show is about ghosts after all. And flashbacks are welcome when they advance the plot, so. :)

The episode was filmed really well, I thought.

The camera work on ghost!Dean wandering the hospital was AMAZING. I rewinded a bunch of stuff just to look at the movement. /omgDORK

The cinematography still annoys me. This episode did look less brown and more greenish, but I still wish we could have *more* types of filtering throughout the eps. I get that it's a stylistic choice, but it gets boring with time.

I remember it hitting me particularly in the shot of the helicopter from below, and then there was this beautifully framed shot of Dean wandering the hallway in the background, with a huge EXIT sign in the foreground. It was fucking sublime.

YES. And lots of long traveling shots while Dean walked down the corridors. Love those. And then there's one time when the camera goes allll the way around him and it's AWESOME.

...I totally get more excited about camerawork than plot sometimes. It's kind of sad, actually. And fuel for endless mockage by my sister. Hee.

Holy cow, I am scared to know what William Mulder did if Aaron Echolls doesn't even rate #2 on this list. ;)

He gave up his daughter to the alien conspiracy, which pretty much destroyed the family. Then he became an alcoholic and let his son take the blame for Samantha's disappearance/abduction for almost 40 years of his life. NICE, huh?

I´m still chocked and crying about the episode ... I can´t believe John´s dead ... he can´t die!

I´m sooooooooooooooooooo dead of curious about what he told Dean!

As curious as I am about he knowing about the Demon´s plan ... I hate John´s dying in the end but deep down I think maybe he´ll be back somehow to help his boys - or at least Dean, if Sam turned evil - bring the big plan down.

And the Impala .... I almost cried seeing the car ... and yeah, I noticed the laptop damaged too ...

Yes. I'm going back and forth about what I think John told Dean -- whether it was something about the Demon [is Sam the Demon's son?] or if it was about Sam himself [should Dean be aware that he might have to kill Sam to save the world?]. No matter what, it's gonna be BAD.

I'm sure the Imapala will be back though. I think I love that car more than anything on this show.
