Next up is one of my favorite episodes: "Odds"!

So, normally there are about 3 to 5 general discussion questions in each ep post, but I happen to find this particular ep really interesting and so there are about a billion questions under the cut. You, um, don't have to answer them ALL. Hee.

Interesting questions :)

I don't really have a lot of insight on the ep (I've only viewed it once) but I did find Denny to be a bit more of a sympathetic character than Victoria. Denny deceived out of self protection (or for the bf, if IRRC), and only to thwart the authorities/R@F from ruining her plans, while Victoria does it out of revenge/hatefulness.

I think all along (starting in S2 and more evident in later seasons) Fraser has exhibited his capacity for passive aggression, bluffing, etc., bu this time he was more... cool about it, expressing it in less broad strokes. I think his behaviour in this ep with RK's 'don't get too close to her' was script mechanics, and perhaps retcon on the depth of his undercover prep in regards to RV's relationship to Fraser (Victoria being a turning point in their friendship {romance}, or an exaggerated response to Fraser's known exhibitions of chivalry where women are involved (and as part of the stereotypical view of Mounties and Canadians in general). Personally, I kinda had shippy vibes ( ... )

1. I have no idea why Ray would think this, unless it’s projecting or foreshadowing, there’s missing scene between Fraser and Lady Shoes. The audience isn’t even aware that he’s seen her before the explosion. I’d vote for the missing scene scenario ( ... )

1. It's not like Fraser to spend ANY time looking at a woman (or the van she rides off in). Story-wise, it follows that since Ray and Fraser spend more time with each other than they do with anyone else, they get to know each other's expressions/behaviours. I can believe that Ray would notice Fraser looking when he never has before since Ray's known him. Script-wise, I'm not ruling out the missing scene. Also, Ray's pretty possessive of Fraser in the first place. I think he's a little jealous (not necessarily romantically; Ray doesn't really like sharing Fraser, which shows up a whole lot in COTW).

2. Yes. And yes. Yes, Fraser's attracted to her. She's his type, after-all: a long-haired brunette with lots of self-confidence (maybe if Thatcher hadn't gone and cut her hair she'd have had more of a chance. *g*). And, um. Just the audio track of the massage scene should get an R rating. Nobody makes sounds like that unless they're interested. He was suspicious and had her investigated and found out she wasn't to be trusted. If there ( ... )

8. He might have been hurt, but not as utterly angry as he was. In my opinion, Fraser was positively seething, which is why I think he did have the start of actual feelings for her. This time, though, he looked up her file instead of trusting her. Yay, Fraser, he really did learn from the Victoria thing ( ... )

"I'm a not-so-closet Fraser/Thatcher fan"

I knew I couldn't be the only one! Can you give me some recs on F/T fics, please? I can't find any anywhere.

*high fives* We are the few, the proud. :) I'm a fan of F/K and F/V (and okay, F/K/V), slashwise, but Fraser/Thatcher pushes all my romance buttons.

I think the best one I've read is Rage: The Thunder Rolls and its sequel.

I like Fort Liard, too, despite some overdiscussion and the fact that it's Northwest Territories, not Territory.

Running for Safety looks good after reading the first couple of paragraphs.

There also seems to be quite a bit of F/T fic here, although I really haven't gone through it, since I just, just found it in a search.

There's some others at DSA I haven't looked at much (although some of what I have are literally badfic, IMO). I have no idea why so much Fraser/Thatcher is terrible. These recs are the best I've found, and they're not bad.
