Character/Pairing: Fraser/Kowalski, pre-slash atm, may end up gen (but they're flirting, so probably not)
What I Like About the Fanwork so far: It is a JOY to write. I love D&D/fantasy worlds so much, so creating one for the dS folks to play in is a treat. I love that I've found ways to fit in a lot of the cast, in ways that feel like they aren't forced. And I really love getting to incorporate a race I created over a decade ago - using their timeline/society structure/characters was both helpful, and happy-making just to get to see them in play.
What’s driving me nuts about the Fanwork so far: That word count above? I have NO IDEA what percentage of the fic that represents. I am hoping over 50%, maybe even 60%, but really, I'm not sure. But the "chapter" files I have are starting to fit together, so that's something. I just keep wanting to add details and character bits, and ignore that pesky plot thingy.
Anything Else: Why did D&D have to change SO FREAKING ( ... )

That is SO COOL you get to use all that creative work here in another way! So awesome.

I KNOW! I was so psyched when I realized I had all this stuff I'd never really gotten to play with, that would fit perfectly. Over 15 pages of notes/timelines/history/characters/biology/language. Seriously. It was like a gift my past self sent to me.

Oh, this sounds so cool! I'm really looking forward to reading it. :)

I'm filling this out as OMG ACCOUNTABILITY because I've spent about an hour, total, so far. /o\

What I Like About the Fanwork so far: SUPERPOWERS, YAY
What’s driving me nuts about the Fanwork so far: ZERO INTEREST, BOO
Anything Else: *waves madly* I suspect my interest will climb once I actually Get Started. But beginnings are always hard!

*cheers you on* Superpowers are always good! YAY! Is there anything you need to help get you motivated? Prodding? Cheering? Virtual chocolates?

Looking forward to this!

ETA to add YES about accountability. I make myself do daily word counts, to make sure I'm staying on track.

Maybe sprints or something this week? Word wars, that kind of thing, if anyone is into it?

I WILL ALWAYS ACCEPT ANY CHOCOLATES ;D

Creator: DesireeArmfeldt
Fandom: Due South
Current Fic Word Count/Podfic or Vid length/rough percentage of Art created: ~17K words, but in terms of storyline, that's chapter 1, most of chapter 2, and bits and pieces from other chapters, of a hypothetical 6 chapters + tag. Yikes!
Character/Pairing: Ray Kowalski, Benton Fraser, Victoria Metcalf, OFC, (secondary characters currently include Vecchio and Frannie)
What I Like About the Fanwork so far: I'm having fun with the characters.
What’s driving me nuts about the Fanwork so far: There are still bits that don't make sense or I haven't figured out, but I'm chipping away at them. Implementing Victoria the way I envision her is tricksy.
Anything Else: At this point, I'm worried that I won't make it to a complete draft by the deadline -- I'm pretty sure I can finish it eventually, I'm just not sure whether I have enough time left, given the way the scale of the story has expanded since my way-back-when original estimate.

Yay for progress and having fun!

I totally hear you about getting the draft done in time. Is there a place in the story that would work as an earlier end point without feeling like you're chopping it up just to get it done?

This is a question I keep asking myself, along with, does the entire adventure need dealing with in THIS fic, or can it be a series.

*cheers you on*

That's a good suggestion, but alas, I think this is pretty much a unitary story. Although, I suppose I could call it a 2-parter episode and just end part 1 on a cliffhanger... :)

Wow. Sounds like that thing is turning into a monster! Are you sure you're 1/3 of the way done, or is it more a case of lots of stuff being front-loaded, and chapters 3-6 will be much shorter? If not, then, like Miz said, there might be a place where you could end the first story in a series. My bb last year, I thought was going to be all of what I wrote and then another gazillion words as they went to Chicago and then Canada. I thought it was all one story, and I had to tell it all. But I talked to some alpha reader types and eventually worked out that setting up this world was a big enough project in it's own right to fill up 30K and the rest of the casefic part of the story could wait for the sequel.

I am SURE August will be your time! And if you need to change concepts, go for it. I did with my fic and it's made all the difference :)

Good luck with your other Big Bang!

Creator: bghost (butterfly ghost over on AO3, dw, etc)
Fandom: due South
Current Fic Word Count: 27308... seems like I'm half way there.
Character/Pairing: Benton Fraser/Ray Kowalski. Ray Vecchio. Willie Lambert. various other canon and oc's.
What I like about the Fanwork so far: When I get my head into it I'm really enjoying writing it, and it comes very naturally. I'm loving Willie as an adult, and finding out what a cool cop he is. Despite the fact that it's very dark in places, it also gets very funny at times, which surprised me, and relieved me, because I didn't want to be writing unmitigated angst.
What’s driving me nuts about the Fanwork so far: Real life has intruded in a big way, so I've not been able to write as much, or as quickly as I wanted. I'm only about half way through, and it seems that the more I write the more complicated getting to the end of the plot is going to be. It's as though the end has become a never ending horizon, or, to mix my metaphors, as though I'm going to be pushing this rock up the hill for ( ... )

Deploy your amazing swift-writing superpowers! :)

I'm looking forward to seeing what you do with your premise.

bghost July 14 2012, 21:06:56 UTC
Ah, the amazing swift writing superpower is more a case of a bunch of characters getting in my head and driving me up the wall, so that the only way to excorcise them is to write them. Sometimes the characters shut up, and I find myself staring at a blank computer screen thinking... where did you go? Come back, disembodied voices in my head! This fic won't write itself!

I'm very much looking forward to seeing Willie all grown up!

And like I told desireearmfeldt, I totally get what you mean about the story getting more complicated the longer you write.

*cheers you on*
