Creator: bghost (butterfly ghost over on AO3, dw, etc) Fandom: due South Current Fic Word Count: 27308... seems like I'm half way there. Character/Pairing: Benton Fraser/Ray Kowalski. Ray Vecchio. Willie Lambert. various other canon and oc's. What I like about the Fanwork so far: When I get my head into it I'm really enjoying writing it, and it comes very naturally. I'm loving Willie as an adult, and finding out what a cool cop he is. Despite the fact that it's very dark in places, it also gets very funny at times, which surprised me, and relieved me, because I didn't want to be writing unmitigated angst. What’s driving me nuts about the Fanwork so far: Real life has intruded in a big way, so I've not been able to write as much, or as quickly as I wanted. I'm only about half way through, and it seems that the more I write the more complicated getting to the end of the plot is going to be. It's as though the end has become a never ending horizon, or, to mix my metaphors, as though I'm going to be pushing this rock up the hill for the rest of my natural days. Anything Else: Enjoying myself... but I need encouragement when I feel flat about it. Thanks to Ride and Tatau for being my betas on this. :)
Ah, the amazing swift writing superpower is more a case of a bunch of characters getting in my head and driving me up the wall, so that the only way to excorcise them is to write them. Sometimes the characters shut up, and I find myself staring at a blank computer screen thinking... where did you go? Come back, disembodied voices in my head! This fic won't write itself!
I'm loving grown up Willie. It's entirely my son's fault he turned out the way I'm writing him... he actually came up with the whole concept for the story, in one off the cuff comment, when we were talking about how due South should be done as a sequel. But... I'll save that for notes after the story's posted, because I don't waqnt to spoil it on anyone.
But grown up Willie is really something. I can't say much though, I feel like that annoying person at a party who laughs at their own jokes. But it does feel like he just took a walk in my head, and I have very little to do with how he turned out.
I know! My son said that if they did a remake of due South they'd have to completely reboot it, and have a different cop, and a different ghost. That's all I'm going to say.
Other than the fact that Willie's going to have to be careful, because if he keeps licking stuff off the sidewalk his captain might well send him to psych services! Yup, poor Willie. He's been well and truly Frasered.
Wow, 27K and you're half-way done. That's awesome! I mean, probably it's stressful for the writer, but I'm looking forward to reading all these lovely long fics in the fall. =)

And like I told desireearmfeldt, I totally get what you mean about the story getting more complicated the longer you write.
*cheers you on*
