Noon is sort of relative. I think drinking alone is just sort of a depressing act in itself, since most people tend to drink socially. It's sort of like doing karaoke by yourself. Nothing wrong in principle--just sort of depressing.

Noon is maybe a little relative, but the idea is definitely there: drinking too early is "taboo."

I really don't like using the word taboo for all these instances since it's a little too strong, but I can't think of anything lesser.

I disagree that drinking alone is sad just because it's more commonly a social event. There are a lot of social practices that aren't inherently depressing when done alone. I don't know, it just doesn't strike me as the real reason it's looked down upon.
