Good lord! That just sounds like someone has WAY too much time on their hands and a world of unresolved grudges that he's taking out on anyone he can.

This is what Mum thinks. He's lonely and frustrated, so he's become curmudgeonly. It just might have been nice if he'd spoken to us, instead of yelling at us.

You won't be able to please him no matter what you do.I hope official organisations can take the pressure off you.

Me too. I'm pretty sure you're right. I just wish he'd spoken to me. If we'd talked, I'd have apologised, explained and tried to sort things out. But he chose the low road and I'm not going to sink to that level again.

I'm sorry your neighbour is being such a bastard about this. I expect you Mum's right though, and the chap is just lonely. But I wish folks would work out how to deal with being old and lonely without turning into curmudgenly old gits. There must be another way, right?

Seems like you're dealing with it in a decently mature manner. I'd probably just scrawl obscenities on his bins.

You'd think so, wouldn't you. I mean, how hard is talking to people? Hell, he could have even written a letter if he couldn't bear seeing us. But no, he chose to scream at us, thus ruining any potential neighbourly relationship.

Oh the temptation is there, but I don't want to escalate things. I've seen too many Neighbours From Hell shows to risk this turning even uglier.

Wait, you're moving? Huh?

And damn I would have given that man a piece of my mind, you're being much more adult about this!

When I start my new job, I'll have to be based somewhere other than the Midlands, so I'll almost certainly have to move. If I'm in the South, it'll be ridiculously expensive, but I'll have friends and family nearby. If it's the North, it'll be much cheaper, but there won't be so many people I know around. I think I'd rather go North, at the mo, but I'm not sure.

I'm rather surprised myself. All I did was confront him then walk away.

Thanks, mate. I'm going to try not to waste any more of my time thinking about it. Besides, I have a busy weekend ahead! eBay, garden clearances and baking will keep me quite busy.
