Sorry for the delay; taking my time writing, unfortunately. -_-; I have most of it done today, but I want to finish it up tomorrow so that I don't curse myself with the "And Then It Was Never Updated Again" Syndrome.

More than a little Kasuka→Shizuo snuck in along with the Izaya→Shizuo, I’m afraid. Hope that doesn’t detract. I’m not sure how I feel about the way this piece turned out to begin with, actually. And...I realize that this interpretation might have utterly butchered any canon so far mentioned about Izaya’s own childhood, since I don’t know about Izaya’s canon childhood. Has it been talked about in the light novels…?

Doraemon is a famous cartoon-like anime in Japan for children (I used to watch it as a kid while I lived there nearly every day) that’s been on air since the 1970’s. Doraemon as a character was recently proclaimed to be a national figure of Japan.Shizuo peered over his shoulder when the crying wouldn’t stop. Kasuka was sprawled on top of the jungle gym that day, and a niggling little worry had caused his big brother to clamber up after him, hanging onto the bars as they conversed about the latest episode of Doraemon, wherein Nobita-kun had been forced to crossdress after walking into an opposite world through the Wherever ( ... )

Shizuo stomped forward, children scampering and stumbling away left and right as he approached, their faces screwing up into watery-eyed, snot-nosed agony as a reaction to the monstrous contortion of his own, vibrating from the pent-up range ( ... )

Not far from the enormous oak, by an area many of its branches had fallen away from recent tsunamis, several birches had been planted. It had been done a few decades ago, when the park had first been opened, as a communal effort for the adults and children in the neighborhood. The one nearest to the oak, who had been able to stare up at and admire the giant oak before them for decades on by, still remembered fondly his early years as a tiny, green sapling curl, determined to grow bigger so as to match the majesty of the oak. He had never quite reached the goal, and as the years passed on, the children and parents had arrived and left, swinging about and amusing themselves upon his and his siblings’ tough but lean trunks. He was very much content, and did not regret his life ( ... )

Heiwajima Shizuo lifted a nearby birch with one arm, the muscles within his arm spasming frenziedly from the mild stress. With a feral, high-pitched roar, he hurled the tree across the park, zooming past the dribble-nosed, tear-bleared, sticky-handed parasite of a target. As he listened mildly for its crash into a rusted structure beyond view thereafter, his arms shook upon his knees, back bent and sweat pouring, his breast and throat heaving rapidly from the strain. He heard a noise, and brought his head up slowly to look at his target.

The little girl laughed gleefully, hands clapping together and legs thudding up and down on the ground from the delight.

Kasuka found his brother a little later, his concern apparent from the intense frown on his face. When he had climbed back down from the jungle gym, annoyed at the increased volume of noise going on all around him, he noticed after some time that parents were rushing wildly to their children, the children practically leaping into their arms. Deciding that it had something to do with his brother, and that it probably involved the tree that he’d seen fly nonchalantly over his head, he set out to seek him out.

His parents would get wind of the fact that they’d gone out without permission again, and become stressed from the calls that were bound to come in, condemning the two’s inability to keep their eldest son’s temper and inhuman strength in check. Kasuka was more than a bit peeved, though his face didn’t show it.

He walked casually down the hill towards the gigantic oak tree that he saw a few older kids pointing madly towards, was grabbed by the shoulder by a woman screaming “No! Stay back child! Some kind of terrorist is lurking ( ... )

When the girl had stood up, brushed off none of the filth that clung to her lacy white dress primly, and then suddenly launched herself into his arms with an exclamation of laughter, Heiwajima Shizuo, quite frankly, had no idea what to do. He went with his second or third instinct and panicked childishly, trying to push away her pudgy face with both hands, while his body writhed in vain of escape ( ... )

Kasuka floundered on his jog towards his brother as Shizuo fell. Once Shizuo had clambered back up on his raw, sore palms however, arms shaking and hand quickly massaging the back of his head, voice managing to gripe, shakily, “Ow ow ow owowww!” both boys turned to glare pointedly at the little girl who still hopped on her soles before them, proudly proclaiming her name.

“Icchan!” she cried, presenting a crinkled up fairground ticket to the two.

Shizuo wasn’t certain how he found himself in this predicament anymore. On either side of him, another hand securely clasped onto his, Icchan’s on his left and Kasuka’s on his right. Kasuka held his hand, weirdly enough, even harder than Icchan did. His brother refused to look at him or the girl, staring straight ahead, the small frown playing on his lips a little mellower than beforehand, but still more persistent than the usual purse of his lips.

He turned to look at Icchan. In truth, the girl still had him flabbergasted. She skipped cheerfully along with their longer steps and strides, humming a little cartoon opening beneath her breath as he went. When she noticed his staring, she swung her head around and smiled big and brightly up at him, cheering, “Let’s go ride the merry-go-round! Let’s go, Shizu~chan ( ... )

Papa had given him a wad of pocket change, larger than usual, for bringing home a report card with high A’s earlier in the week. There had been tears in his eyes, and Shizuo knew why, but he’d merely held his gaze to the ground, hiding the soft blush spreading on his face while scratching the back of his scalp. He had meant to spend it as frugally as he usually did with money, unlike Kasuka, who’d insisted that he spend it all on boxes of his favorite, expensive ice cream cones with an elaborately swirled top and thick, luxurious chocolate lining the top of the crispy waffle bread ( ... )

They were loitering amongst the crowds when Kasuka had suddenly paused, catching a glimpse of a huge, brawny, heroic man with unruly dark hair, rugged beard and twinkling green eyes, staring impassively ahead. He turned around to stare up at the poster more intently, taking note of the blonde woman, holding a gun in one hand, still sensually pressed against his chest, as if she had no idea how to use the weapon, and did she mention today that it was great of him to have stopped by to save her? A pale man with dark hair and glowing crimson eyes and a perverse smile took up a great deal of the background, looming over the two.

Kasuka sighed. His dream, which he had only indulged to his first grade classmates after scrawling a visual of it on his notebook-enduring the merciless laughter (from the students, the teacher) with a vacant demeanor-was to grow up to be a superhero, so as to save his precious damsel in distress Shizuo from big bad villains like Icchan.

What did Icchan stand for anyway? Itsuki? Izuru? Ichi the scar-faced
