This problem is a common one on Answers, several times each day for months. Either your mail was infected by malware (a trojan, not a virus) or spoofed by spammers, or your address was found in someone else's infected computer. The ( Read more... )

I'm hotmail. (gmail?) and I was hacked last week. I suppose I shouldn't check my email at Starbucks and such, when they are unsecured?

BUT IT'S FUN TO CHECK MY EMAIL THERE! *sad panda*

Access via starbucks isnt the problem. It's servers, malware, or an infected computer that has you on an email list ( ... )

I've given up on trying to get people to use BCC and stop forwarding things with 500 addies attached. Another thing to add to the computer clean up is to make certain you have you have the correct and updated version of JAVA installed.

New Windows OS's are rolling out as 64-bit and the IE the that comes with it is also 64-bit. Chrome for Win7 is only 32-bit. You have to download BOTH the 32 and 64-bit versions in order to be protected. *sigh*

I've just decided to use Yahoo for alerts from LJ, FB and other various things at this point. Will be clearing out and killing my address book there.

Thanks for the info.

*snerk*

Kaspersky is what I've migrated over to and we've traced the hack to my Android-based phone. Running old Yahoo software. Issue has been resolved. My phone is too old to add other protection to - not enough memory - so I'm dropping the Yhaoo features for now.

Getting tired of having to keep up with this crap. If I'd wanted to work in the IT business, I'd have signed on with my brother.

You have to keep running faster just to stay in the same place--

Remember, you don't NEED half the tech we use. It's more fashion and more WANT. I am not a tool for technology, I am the one who uses technology as the tool. Anyone who admits to being a hacker in front of you, you have my permission to slap them.

Finally, if a hacked email account is the only thing bad happening, then life is good. Because it means you are loved, and have friends, and plenty of food, and no one died, and have the toys that some assh*le could hack.

I got an email from someone in the fandom and it had no header so I'm a little afraid of opening it. I am entered in a few exchanges, so I am not sure if it is concerning that or not. :(
