I'm on AIM, too! And if you're an oldie, I must be downright ancient. I remember the days when everything was Play By Email and chatrooms, IMs, and IRC were this strange new thing everybody had to be cajoled into trying.
Yeah- I was a little late on the whole e-mail / chat-rooms trend that took place around middle school. While everyone was busy on AOL sending IMs, I was sitting in my room with an old MAC that lacked any internet connectivity. I think I finally was able to discover the diversity of the internet my sophomore year in high school when we actually had computer - lab study hall. Which meant I could connect with Otherkins, dragons, and the like for at least fifty minutes each day!
Never got into IRC, although I have heard many stories surrounding it.
IRC is kind of over, IMO. It was a vibrant, active group chat format back in the days of dialup, but always-on internet has kind of fucked it. There are still plenty of active networks and channels within those networks, but it's all too common to pop into a room with 50 people in it, only to quickly discover that nobody there has an idle time under two days.
I'm expandranon on AIM if you ever want to give a yell or somethinge.
Prometheus isn't an Alien prequel my dear ;) Ridley Scott was planning that at first but he decided against it and switched to making an original movie. It is still set in the Alien universe but no prequel (which IMO, is a better idea, I'm sick of prequels, sequels and stuff)
Oh my gosh, you have no idea how pleased I am to hear this news. There were rumors going around that Prometheus would not be an Alien prequel but just set in the same universe, but a majority of my sci-fi pals insisted that it was going to be an Alien prequel whether I liked it or not! I guess we'll just have to see this coming June. Either way I'm very much so looking forward to it. But I agree with you, we could definitely do without all this prequel nonsense - just so some of our favorite directors have breathing room to come up with unique and original ideas on their own.
