I have no problems with any of the Nice Party's platforms. None whatsoever... :D

You're lucky to have the Nice Party. They won't be running in Britain (although I think I spotted them, among other goodies, on the council election ballot. There were also lots of varieties of Gruntward's mates).

*sympathises* Well, at least you have some amusing minor parties over there in the UK

The first time I learned about how US democracy works from from a Wild Cards novel set a political convention. My reaction was an incredulous "Are you serious????"

That's a nice and accessible explanation. And I still wonder why we don't use preferential voting here. (Well, actually, I don't; the major parties, the one that are currently in power and that are the only ones in a position to change this, only stand to lose if it's implemented.)

yeah :( Although I gather New Zealand has an even better system, but New Zealand is very enlightened in many respects

*nods* Yeah, the comments on the guy's site mentioned that, too. What sort of system do they have?

It's the remarkable accuracy of the sample ballot which strikes me most about this useful cartoon.

Sundog Replies - I don't understand where this "wasted vote" bollocks got started. I prefer highest number of votes wins - it's very simple, totally fair, everyone participating has exactly the same say. You CAN'T "waste" yoru vote - it counts the same as everyone else's.

But it also leads to situations where a third party splits the vote.

Sundog Replies - Sure, but so what? It's up to candidates to convince us that they're the best person for the job. If they can't convince a plurality to vote for them, they weren't the best candidate.
