That's a nice and accessible explanation. And I still wonder why we don't use preferential voting here. (Well, actually, I don't; the major parties, the one that are currently in power and that are the only ones in a position to change this, only stand to lose if it's implemented.)

yeah :( Although I gather New Zealand has an even better system, but New Zealand is very enlightened in many respects

I looked it up - the same kind of mixed-member proportional representation that Germany has. I'm not sure I consider than an improvement compared to preferential voting, but then I'm no expert.

Also, are these candidates caricatures? Beremy Scumbum vaguely looks like Tony Blair to me, at least.
