Why do you use 'reading goals'? I mean, counting how many books you read. Recently I got fed up of never reading books at all (studying for a PhD can do that to you) so I decided to approach things differently. I picked one book from my unread shelves, the book that called out to me, and now I'm reading it slowly from the front page on. Getting a lot from this book.
for accountability. i got burned out after undergrad from reading, as you did with your phd, so for the longest time i didn't read. and then i found every excuse in the book (ha) not to read because i was "busy". i made it a goal a couple years back to read twenty-four books in a year (even though i wasn't really reading that much, i was still buying books). i found that twenty-four books was a bit much, so i scaled it down to 12. i end up reading somewhere between the 12-24 each year now.
Totally with you, the cold is way better, it's so much easier to get warm with layers and heaters than it is to cool yourself down. In the summer it gets over 40+ celcius here and it's just the absolute worst. Good luck with the books!
Yay, glad I'm not the only one who thinks that. Wow 40+ I feel so sorry for you, I don’t think I could cope with those types of temperatures. Thanks for the encouragement too :)
haha, no your right I'm a wimp. I'm only putting my list on public just to keep my own motivation up. How many have you read so far if you don’t mind me asking? We can encourage each other lol :)
It's been 63 so far this year! Some of them were pretty short, but some were long, so it balances out.
I used to have my list viewable by my friends, but I write mini-reviews for each entry so I can remember how I felt about them and some of them are...rather blunt (like saying the writing was amateurish, for example). My memory sucks and I read a lot, so I do these things to keep track of what I've read and what I don't want to read again. I decided to make it private in case I somehow accidentally offend someone with one of my somewhat harsh reviews, considering most of what I read is self-published stuff, some of my friends on here are writers, and at least one of them publishes under a pen name that I don't know. That could be...awkward. hehe
Yes this heatwave's harsh isn't it? For a crip like me it's truly disabling but like you, I'm wealthy enough to have electric fans indoors. Meanwhile my friend the beekeeper in central Scotland says the nectar's flowing :-)
Thank you for logging your book-reading. I'm doing my own version of this.
Yeah its getting really annoying, one day hot as hell, the next cool. I wish the weather would make up its mind. No problem, can't wait to see your list :)

I keep a list of books I read throughout the year here on LJ, too, though mine is set to being only visible to me because... reasons. lol
