Fascinating. I need to think about that bulge... Do you have pix of what happened before you ripped it out again? It might help me to help you fix it, or to avoid it in similar circumstances.

Oh no!! It was so pretty on the mannequin. I love the color, and the guard placement.

Always count a day for pleating ;) the 1860's dresses also used cartridge pleating but not in the front, there's some knife pleats and/or box pleating to keep the front smoother and the fullnes in the side back and back.

I believe I have seen the same in paintings of older gowns, too. It think that's the solution.

With my kirtles, I leave the front six to ten inches flat, and pleat from about my front hip bone back so that my vanity is intact.

on my italian dress i left the front center flat and knife pleated the front sides to just before they rounded the hip area and then acrtridge pleated the rest. flat on the front fluffy in the back. thats what worked for me any how. you can see my dress here if you wanna get an idea of what that looked like

haha thanks! i JUST found it and i saved it and tried to get back to the lj user that made it so i could note down her name and i can NOT find it. i am bummed that i cant tell ya who made it. i kinda feel like a jerk for using it with out knowing but i figure i look for icons alot and ill come across her again eventually and take note :0)
