rambling update

Came home to a VERY cold (52) degree house and a furnace that kept trying to fire but wouldn't. EEEhhh. Hope you're toasty and warm again now.

Apparently the correct voltage was being produced but not conducted. These things strike great fear and trigger terrifying flashbacks in me because in my family an announcement like that was just an invitation for the voltage meters and soldering irons to come out and four engineering types to have at it. Sure, the furnace would be fixed eventually but no one seemed to care that the power was off for nine hours while they played with it. The house actually, you know, warming up, would pale beside figuring out the puzzle. The electrical system in my childhood home was interesting at best. And suddenly it is BLINDING CLEAR to me why I married a devoutly non-DIYer!!!!

The heat going out down here is not nearly the dramatic crisis of the AC going out.
