Jared wasn’t sulking; he doesn’t care what Sandy said when she walked through the living room to check all the windows, telling Jared she didn’t trust him to check when he was in a sulky mood. He had just crossed his arms and glared at Sandy as she laughed and made her way back upstairs where the oldest Ackles brother had his bedroom, while Jared had flopped down on the couch, one room away from Jensen. Jensen had retreated to his bedroom and had not come out since he got home from work. If anyone was sulking it was Jensen, not Jared.

Jared huffs, his arms folded over his chest. So, maybe he was pouting, and he was actually getting tired of it. His mind just keeps repeating what happened at the library, and he keeps kicking himself for not giving into Jensen. Jared’s not one to question sex, he’s had so many night stands, that the people that are close to him would ask him if he was sick for turning down the godly body of Jensen Ackles.

But Jensen’s different. Jared doesn’t know why, but he wants more than just sex from Jensen. He wants that connection that he has never tried to find in any relationship he’s ever been in. He, god, he wants Jensen’s heart, soul, and mind; not just his body.

With another huff, he stands and walks towards Jensen’s room. In a matter of seconds, he stands in front of the solid oak door and knocks. He waits a few seconds, and when no answer comes from with in the room, he slowly turns the knob and pushes the door open to reveal Jensen sitting sideways on a window seat, staring out into the night.

“Are you okay?” Jared asks, concern laced into his voice as he looks at Jensen seeing a lost boy more than the grown man he actually is.

“What’s different?” Jensen asks, not answering Jared; his eyes fixed on something outside the window, that Jared would wager wasn’t really there.

“What do you mean?” Jared asks, moving closer to sit on the end of Jensen’s bed.

“I’m still the youngest brother. Josh is still the oldest brother.” Jensen replies, never once looking at Jared. “Now instead of wondering if this year is the year Jake’s going to actually come home to visit, I know without a doubt, he won’t. So what’s different?”

“You’ll miss him,” Jared interjects, watching Jensen stare out of his window.

“I’ve always missed him,” Jensen tells the older man, years of disappointment echoing from his voice. “You wouldn’t know it after all these years,” Jensen informs him, “but Jake and I used to be inseparable. Where one of us was, the other was usually right there along side.”

“What happened?” Jared asks, wanting more than anything to move closer to the man at the window and offer comfort.

“He became a marine,” Jensen tells him, finally turning to look at Jared, sadness filling the bright green eyes, that Jared never really noticed before.

“That doesn’t really make all that much sense,” Jared replies. He’s known many marines, and none of them abandoned their families just because they enlisted.

“and I didn’t,” Jensen sadly informs him, once more looking out the window. “See that tree,” Jensen motions with a nod of his head, to the tall oak tree in the middle of the back yard, “I was eight when I broke my arm climbing it. Jake climbed it one day, and I decided anything my older brother could do, I could do.” Jensen tells Jared with a sad laugh, “Mom was so pissed at Jake. She was convinced that he talked me into doing it, but he tried to convince me not to climb it.” Jensen sighs, hugging himself as he continues to look at the tree. “He left when I was thirteen.”

“I’m sorry Jen,” Jared whispers, not even noticing the nickname he uses, as he stands making his way to the window seat to sit behind Jensen and wrap his arm around him. “I’m so sorry,” he continues to whisper before dropping his head onto Jensen’s shoulder.

Jensen doesn’t pull away, instead he leans further into the taller man, “He’d come back every time he got leave.” Jensen continues his story, “I worshipped him, he was my cool brother, my best friend. Josh was always more involved with helping out mom and dad, he never really had time for me, but Jake, even when he’d come back for a week or so, we’d get into so much trouble,” Jensen huffs out, tears now falling from his eyes. “Then we lost mom and dad.” Jensen sobs.

“Jensen, you don’t need to tell me this,” Jared tells the younger man, holding him tighter, his own heart aching as Jensen reveals his past.

“Jake and Josh both came home,” Jensen continues, wanting to finish now that he’s finally starting talking about it.

“Come on,” Jared whispers in Jensen’s ear, helping him stand and move to the bed. He now knows that Jensen’s going to continue with the emotional story. Jensen will most likely be exhausted after he finishes, and Jared rather have Jensen walk to his bed, then Jared having to carry him.

When both men are comfortable on the bed, Jensen’s head on Jared’s chest, and Jared’s right hand rubbing circles into Jensen’s back; Jensen continues, “I had been at the hospital for so long, and when my brother’s finally showed up, I bolted. I was so pissed, I was fifteen, and I didn’t think it was fair. My parents were gone, my brother’s were never around, and I had no other family. I didn’t know what was going to happen to me.” Jensen raises his head to wipe his eyes with the back of his hand, “I ran. Just kept running until I found myself at my house. I unlocked the door, walked in, and called my boyfriend.” Jensen’s voice hitches, the shaking in his body getting worse. “Jake walked in my room and found us,” Jensen informs softly, like he’s back in the past, living through that night again. “We weren’t doing anything more than kissing, but Jake flipped. He threw my boyfriend out, hollered for Josh, and then left. He stayed at some friend’s houses until the funeral, then left.”

“I’m sorry,” Jared repeats once more, not really knowing what he could say to take away Jensen’s pain.

“That’s the last time I actually saw him,” Jensen reveals. “When I turned eighteen, Josh didn’t want me to join the marines. He was worried about people finding out my preferences, and convinced me to stay. I figured Josh gave up his life to watch out for me, that I could do the same,” he shrugs as much as he can lying on his side. “A month after my birthday, I got a letter from Josh. He found out that I didn’t join like the rest of our family, and basically called me a disappointment, and that’s the last time I heard from him.” Jensen finishes; his body sagging from all the emotions he’s kept in for so many years.

After a few minutes, Jared begins to move. He doesn’t want Jensen to wake with Jared in his bed, and thinks it better if he just goes back to the couch.

“Stay?” Jensen asks, his hand on Jared’s chest fisting the material of Jared’s shirt.

“Yeah,” Jared replies, relaxing back onto the bed, his hand moving once more to Jensen’s back and rubbing small circles into the fabric separating his hand from Jensen’s skin, “Anything you want.”

I'm sorry it's taking so long to update, but I've been working on my big bang, and it just won't stop until I write it out. Currently, I'm stuck on it, so I was able to write on this.
