well, unless the person works for a small town center in a large county, most police departments have some sort of 24 hour monitoring. how big of an area is she working in and what type of department are you wanting her to work for? is it going to be a police department or a 911 center

Well, it's going to be a 911 center, and it's actually set in Kentucky, so I'll just have to do some research on that, I guess.
Maybe it will help if I tell you nmore about the idea. It is set in Kentucky and revolves around three people. A father, his daughter, and a guy the father took under his wing, so to speak, who is engaged to the daughter. The man is the chief of a firehouse and the guy, over a few years, becomes his second in command. The girl is a emergency communication officer, and in that, she always knows what's going on and where he father, and later, fiance, are going. One night, she hears that they're both sent to a fire and the building collapses, trapping them inside...and it just goes downhill from there.
So basically, I just need to know what kind of things she would be doing in order to hear this call...and who she would interact with directly. Hopefully, that explains it a little more and I REALLY REALLY appreciate all your help. Forgive me for taking so long to reply.
