3rd Drawing [Video/Action for people in Cherrygrove City]

[Takato looks oddly solemn as he stares into the camera, an impression only slightly offset by the forgotten streaks of paint on his clothes.]

It's kind of nice being in a city again.  We got so lost, I was starting to worry that we would never make it here!

But... I've been thinking a lot about these pokemon.  Is it really true that we have to make ( Read more... )

No one ever said you have to fight. I mean, people keep saying that's the only way for them to grow, but people have been wrong before.

In fact, my Ronmeer has been doing a lot healthier and calmer without fighting.

It's nice of you to think of them this way.

It reminds me of something that my friends and I thought a lot about at home.

But I'm glad. I don't really like fighting. Not if there isn't a reason for it.

Me neither. I get enough of that back home.

Of course, I guess some of them like battling. It's like a game for them, kinda like with puppies. Roughhousing.

I guess. If they want to. But Smeargle hasn't ever acted like he wants to fight.

[Y'know, Cooper's been pondering all of this before.]

From what I understand the will to fight is within their nature. But if some wouldn't want to, then isn't it just as easy as to not make them? [He gives a small smile] Their endurance is nothing short of incredible. I stopped worrying about any extenstive damage to them quite some time ago, if that's of any consolation regarding the matter.

[Smile grows] They're really something, aren't they? Actually, for several reasons it wouldn't surprise me if they did want something more from us, or, in fact, if they're part of whatever grand plan is responsible for our presence in this amazing place.

It was like that for digimon, too. In their world, fighting was the natural way of things. But some of them... They came to find partners because they wanted to find something more. To grow beyond their nature.

Digimon? Judging by the names, they sound quite similar to pokémon, though I wouldn't know if that's the case.

Also - isn't that what we all want? To grow beyond our nature. [Again, small smile. He rather likes that wording of it.] If I ever find out what my pokémon want, I will do my best to make sure they can reach that goal. I assume you will too. You seem to have it in you.

In some ways they're similar, but in others they're very different. I'm still trying to figure it all out.

I guess so? Humans and digimon and pokemon.... I don't think we ever stop growing. There are always new things to learn. I just want the me of tomorrow to be stronger than the me of today.

I've never encountered a Pokémon that didn't want to fight before. I suppose you don't have to make them fight, at least if you don't want to as a Trainer and a Pokémon.

I hope not. But have you ever heard of anything else they could do besides fight?

Hmmm...not really. Why? Do you not want to fight?

I don't really like to fight. Not when there isn't a purpose to it.

The impression I got is a lot of 'em LIKE fighting... but that said, if they don't want to, I don't see much point or reason in making them.

I had one who wasn't really up for fighting, so I just gave him to somebody who'd let him be a pet. [She shrugs.]

I knew digimon who liked to fight too. But they came to find partners because they wanted to find something more to their lives. Something more meaningful than fighting all the time.

I... guess that could be the case.

... But I got the impression that these guys were just... given to us. I'm not saying it's BAD, but... they act like plain old animals to me. I dunno. Maybe mine just aren't as sophisticated as everybody else's.

[Meanwhile, off-camera, Cujo was staring, mesmerized, at a spot on the wall.]

It seems like they're not as smart as digimon. But I still wondered about it all.
