You don't have to make them fight, no. I know a few people who prefer to just travel with their Pokémon, rather than train them.

...it's pretty much up to the trainer's preference, though.

Well, you can always try and get to Goldenrod. It's the biggest city around, so you might be able to find something to do there.

At home, there were creatures I knew that had fighting in their nature. But some of them wanted to find something more than that. They wanted to grow beyond their nature.
