Apparently this is a pretty big thing in Japan (maybe Asia in general). There were several kiddie sized pairs at the street festival. I was told they're very good for martial arts. But as a fashion statement - UGH!

I know of no sport that requires heeled boots (with the possible exception of Dancing with the Stars and I really really don't want to think about THAT) as standard equipment.

OMG. Ya know, I think I actually saw some those in a window and dismissed them as a vision from shoe hell. How unflattering and unfeminine (not to mention uncomfortable) and every other UN one can conjure. Whatever happened to foot-shaped shoes?
