Whew! Only one family at work lost their home in the fire, who just so happens to be in my class. Fathoming such a loss is mind boggling. I couldn't begin to imagine losing everything. When I got married, we must've had one of the cheapest weddings/receptions of all time, LOL. My mom bought my dress at J.C. Penny's as a gift, and we bought a wedding cake. We asked all the ushers/groomsmen to wear dark-colored suits. My MOH had already been in a wedding, and had a bridesmaid's dress in kind of a lavender color, so I asked my other maids to wear shades of lavender, plum, or purple. My MOH bought my bouquet as her gift to me.
We had an old school DJ, a friend, who offered his services for free. For the reception, we supplied booze, soda, and coffee, and asked everyone else to bring pot-luck dishes.
An old reprobate pal of ours from Vegas drove us around in his Classic Caddy with tail fins and skirts, to and from the ceremony and reception. A most excellent time was had by all, and nobody went broke. Despite what the Wedding Industry ($$$) would have us believe, it is possible to have a great day with great folks and great fun, WITHOUT going into great debt ( ... )
