Well, I've skipped over commenting on each chapter, as they came so fast and thick there at the end, but this story really is a triumph, Barbara--truly, a wonderful piece of work. It's one of those rare offerings that feels absolutely authentic, down to the last detail. It feels like canon. You've done an absolutely fabulous job!

I so admired the way you wove all those people into the history Tolkien provided--especially Thorn and Gilraen and Halbarad--and I absolutely love that Pippin got the book and (one must suppose) took it home. Do you suppose it ended up in his library? :)

It has been a struggle to get all of the chapters posted by the deadline! I was afraid I might turn people off the story, what with spamming their flists with it!

But I am blushing at your words. They are very high praise--"praise from the praiseworthy". That you think it feels like canon is probably the nicest thing you could ever say.

It was difficult, sometimes, weaving in the canon events and peoples. The Tale of Years was both my best friend and biggest foe as I wrote this!

As for the book, I am quite sure you are right!

I loved this. I kept checking for updates last evening. I had to skip commenting because I'm having trouble with my right arm hurting.

I'm gald that the story came full circle and that Pippin got the book. I think it would have meant the most to him since he and his uncle now had so much in common.

I could go on, but I am typing this at work and I'm trying to rest my hand as much as possible.

I think that it will mean a lot to him. Pippin, like Hildifons, was a very Tookish sort of Took. And, too, he will be Thain and the head of the Tooks one day-- it's only fitting that he be the one to bear the journal home.

An exquisite ending! :) And utterly appropriate.

I can just "see" the garden where Hildifons is buried. :) He had an amazing life, and if his only regrets were that he had not made it home to see his family once more, well... even after what happened to his feet, he had a good, and happy life.

I do love the thought of him spending his last years in Rivendell, surrounded by elves who cared for him enough to create his special rooms, and to memorialize him by the lovely--hobbity--garden.

Well done! Now, can I nominate this for the MEFAs, or has someone else already done so? *grin*

I think the Elves had become very fond of Hildifons, as they later would of Bilbo. And they would want to memorialize their mortal friend in a fitting way.

It was nominated already, as a WIP. I need to get in there and change its status now. But thank you for the compliment!
