I agree with what you said about not affording school and requiring a master's degree. I also feel I can do just about any job with proper on the job training. You get better education on the job then you do in school. I think going to school is good, however I think there are high school drop outs in the VP seats in companies mearly because they worked their way up and did not have it handed to them because of a piece of paper.
YEs? just try to get a job working with the Baurau of Land management, Department of Fish and Wildlife, US Forest service and any other job that allows you to avoid suburban slavery and live on ACTUAL LAND.
Job training my ass. You are constantly at the whim of politics of the office and little wars between new managment and old managment. On the job training gets you nowhere without the proper paperwork. Obviously it's better realistically but seriously, get hired without a masters. I have 4 AA degrees and I can't get better then 9 dollars and hour.
Yeah, it's pretty friggin' moronic how everyone is expected to have a college degree these days, even though like 90% of employees don't use anything they learned in college in their actual jobs.
It also pisses me off that when I want to take a job that DOESN'T require a college education (tried to get a job doing maintenance for the city of Berkeley) my application is ignored because I'm too educated, too white, and not poor enough.
If I *want* to do the job and I *can* do the job I should be HIRED to do the job no matter what my race, sex, or background is.
It's no wonder that so many government jobs are filled with horribly incompetent people considering the way they hire.
