Much cheered by seeing early Spring flowers starting to show up. It was lovely to see snowdrops actually poking their heads through the snow last week, and now the aconites are going crazy, the crocuses are coming out, and the daffodils are well on the way. And there is noticably more and better daylight around (on average; today is a bit ( Read more... )

Indeed - the dandelions are in flower too. But at least there's more daylight time to get out there and dig them up!

(Humour me, I'm working hard on the glass-half-full schtick. I have no time to garden and the lighter mornings will soon be waking the kids up even earlier.)

I strim the worst of it three times a year. The thought of doing anything major to the garden just depresses me, although I have my Agent Orange equivalent ready to go.

Call it a meadow and (a) you're supporting traditional land-management practices and native-species habitats, (b) unimproved is much better for biodiversity so you're not supposed to do anything to it except cutting, and (c) taking three cuts a year looks over-enthusiastic rather than slack.

I have snowdrops in my garden. Only two, but they're ones I planted and I'm terribly pleased.
