Last year I found they took *ages* just to germinate, hence didn't get a long enough season to produce any worthwhile fruit. This time I started them early on a sunny windowsill (about 3 wks ago) and now they are in the greenhouse. Still seem very slow growing though..........
But remember that in a couple of years you'll want to move up the glass a bit to protect where balls will be thrown/kicked.
I have some horrendously leggy tomato seedlings but will pot them on and try again as well. And my peppers are as active as yours. But my peas, broad beans and mangetout are in the veg beds and growing! Intend putting French beans in toilet rolls this weekend.

Definitely a danger, but I'm less worried about that. If he runs in to the wall of the greenhouse, the broken glass will probably fall right on top of him, and he'll probably fall on to it. Nasty. But if he kicks a ball on to the roof, the broken glass will fall in to the greenhouse, not on to him. Bit of a pain for a parent to clean up and replace, but not so potentially lethal! Unless, of course, he's turns out to be the sort of lad who goes in to the greenhouse to kick a football around ...
The advantages are that if a caretaker is off sick you've still got cover. Also, things are a lot more 'transparent'- you're not just relying on your gut feeling over individuals. Alex did enjoy the range of activity and having choices of playmates.
On the otherhand I absolutely loathed it (I had to go back to work when he was only 12wks & I was still breast feeding, or lose my job. Not an option with other children to feed). Alex was absolutely fine, but it was not a good time.
Oh yes - the reliability of care that a nursery provides is pretty evident just from our experiences of trying to get a place for him with a childminder! And there's the professionalised care thing that's good, and no difficult issues about him seeing other kids eating crisps and going on group trips to McDonalds as a treat.
Sounds like a pretty rough time with Alex. It's bad enough at 9 months and only leaving him two days a week.

(same hit rate on the peppers btw - trying again this year - germination going well)

You're doing better than me if you're getting germination to happen at all!
