Flood damaged electrical equipment

So a friend posted this article from the SMH on rescuing flood-damaged computers and other electronics, which is full of contradictory and downright bad advice (I know! In a Murdoch paper?? I'm as surprised as you are!). Let's try and set the record straight, shall we ( Read more... )

Cheers ears, I have amended my original to link to you. Two little things, the SMH is Fairfax, not Murdoch-owned, and for 15, if you are in any doubt, I would say don't test it at all without proper equipment, should anyone have ignored all the warnings about electrocution up to that point (bloody skimmers). Thank you!

The knuckle trick has saved my life a couple of times. Ironically just after I posted this I went to the loo and got zapped by the lightswitch :(

I'm leaving this den of iniquity and the end of the month - for a den of far greater and more inspiring iniquity.

I don't think the wiring is to blame; it's a *plastic* lightswitch for starters, and it was only a mild tingle. I'm putting it down to the 9000% humidity and the layer of salty sweat all over me.

Also mentioned elsewhere: bagging up your electronics with some dry rice to shlorp the last bits of moisture out of it.
