Repo! The Genetic Opera

New post as I test out this app on my iPhone. As per usual, it's been awhile. However, there is something cool I must talk about.

That thing is the movie 'Repo! The Genetic Opera'. For those who like musicals, it has Sarah Brightman. For those who like Buffy, it has Anthony Stewart Head. A rock musical with gore and a comic book asthetic. Doesn't ( Read more... )

I really enjoyed REPO! I think they could've made some better choices as some moments don't feel as smooth as they could have been or as poignant - but it's a fabulous idea and fun to watch!

I really wanted to like Repo! It has all the things I love and also Paris Hilton, and somehow it made Paris Hilton the high point and all the things I love suck.

GAWDS you are sooo 2 weeks late!

The gore kinda got to the squeamish side of me, but yes, excellent watching. I kind of describe it as Sweeney Todd meets Rocky Horror Picture Show. The Graverobber kind of gives me the pseudo prettyboy vampire type vibe though.

That dude was one of the writer/creators. I am glad he got to make a movie out of his work, but personally think that maybe he should've hired someone better.

I would disagree! I thought his performance was overwrought to the point of being silly. He had a good voice -- and I'm sure he'd look great on stage, where you're supposed to direct your perfomance to the back row. That's actually most of my problem with the movie -- I think it was poorly adapted for film. I think I'd love it if I saw it on stage.

I was really excited about Repo! and felt let down. I just didn't like the music. One of my LJ friends is dating the director's cousin who she met at a screening because her best friend designed the jewelry... but I still don't like it. I just can't tell her.

Wow, I go to work and everyone comments! I feel bad I'm late to the boat, but I'm glad some of you liked it. It was certainly different and did remind me in some ways of Rocky Horror. I'm sorry ladykinbote didn't like it! I thought it was right up your alley!

It is totally up my alley, and I mean, I don't hate it. The costumes and most of the makeup were super rad, the visual design in general was awesome, the story was classic, and the concept is so so fun. I really wanna see it on stage! But I think that the people in charge completely failed at directing for film. It's entirely possible, and Rocky Horror proves my point, to take a show with that much grand, wicked energy and channel it into a medium that requires as much subtlety as film.
