I'd wanted to wait until Friday to post this, and then I'd planned on posting every Friday until our fics are due, but I just couldn't wait. And since yesterday marked the 1-month-until-due date, I figured now was a good time ( Read more... )

ARGH!

I'm angsting that my recipient won't like what I'm doing with the prompt request, but it's the only story that has taken hold and that I can bring myself to write. I have the whole thing outlined and have been doing some research, but I'm only a little over 1K words in. It will probably be about 5K.

But if I can pull this out, I think it will be a good story.

I've got about 4k words so far. Trouble is, I can't write linearly -- I jump from scene to scene out of sequence. In the end it all comes together, but when I'm writing it, I have to keep the general idea intact and see what comes to me and how/where it fits in.Anybody else do that?

I did research on an idea I had very early on, and then walked away from the textbooks, because otherwise I would become totally obsessed and nothing would get done!

The remaining time does worry me a bit. I haven't lined up any betas yet because (1) I'm not sure how long it will be, and (2) it's still kinda hard to summarize into something coherent.

Am I alone in this boat? lol

I am in the no-beta-boat too!

Maybe I should start writing scenes as they come to me. I know what I want in the beginning and the end. It's the middle that got to me! Which is why I've got 0 words. :(

I say to write what you've got. That tends to get my muse into the mood to write what is missing.

Nooooou! Do you have a beta? Cause if you don't, I'll volunteer to be it because then I get to know what your prompt is and then help you out. That's not against the rules, right? Right?!

Oh, no! That would be sad (as in *sniffle, cry, sob* seriously sad) not to have your talents pooled for this final challenge of the group, bunney!

Maybe like ashley, you just need some inspiration? Is there anything that might help? Song titles/lyrics, prompts... pics of nekkid Draco sunbathing? I've got Photoshop, am not afraid to use it, and have lots of pics of Draco squirreled away on my desktop. You just say the word. :)

I've written an outline, but I'm still not sure I want to write it--mainly because it seems like it'll turn out really long and I'm worried they won't like it.

The prompt is definitely different from what I'm used to writing.

5K, WOW! :D

A friend of mine on this challenge had the same problem - a fabulous story, but EPIC. It would require more time and energy to write than was feasible. I advised her to save that idea for a later time and try something else entirely. She's absolutely jazzed about her new idea.

In your case, since you already have an outline, perhaps you could take one scene from that long story you've plotted out (a photograph in time, as it were) and make that your gift, with the rest of the story to follow someday (sort of like a preview)? Or, maybe you can synopsize the story - scrunch it down to get to the one most important scene that will change everything between the characters - and write it that way?

Just ideas.

Those are good ideas! I'll be thinking about them in class today. *stretches writing muscle*

Thank you!
