Dear starfishchick and anglaisepaon,

Currently I have four books on the go: The Beauty Myth by Naomi Wolf, She's Such A Geek: Women write about science, technology & other nerdy stuff edited by Annalee Newitz and Charlie Anders, Gay L.A.: A history of sexual outlaws, power politics and lipstick lesbians and It's Easy Being Green: A handbook for earth-friendly living. I'm finding the same with me: I'm preferring non-fiction to fiction these days. You make a good point; perhaps it is because it fits more easily into a busy schedule. But some books I read as just as in depth and lengthy as a fiction book. So for me, I think it's more that after a long, much-needed break from learning stuff, I'm finding I'm missing it. Plus, I've come across some new areas that I'm curious about and want to learn more about, more so that I want to be entertained.

Ah well, I suppose the reason is unimportant so long as I'm reading something.

I am still really into my fiction reading, but nothing has really caught my eye/mind lately, so I end up with 24 books out of the library and four shelves of unread books and NOTHING TO READ.

Dear dramaqueen_23,

Back when I finished grad school, I was so burned out from reading for my thesis, and my oral exams, and for my classes, and for the class I taught, that I stopped reading fiction for awhile. It was non-fiction, with that ability to pick up and read in pieces, that made reading fun again.

I've been eyeing The Beauty Myth for awhile now. If you do book reviews on LJ, I'd be really interested in what you think about that one.

I don't know much about either 70s disco or funk. Something I should definitely fix. :)

And thank you for answering!

Love,
anglaisepaon
