Last year around Christmas time, I was informed that is acceptable to lie to children around Christmas time in order to preserve their sense of "childlike wonder" at the world because it's healthy and children understand that even if they're being lied to, it's for good reason.
There's a lot of psychology involved in it, so I don't completely understand the details, but I think it makes sense at that time of year. Regarding anything beyond that time of year, I would never lie to a child so I don't see why it would be necessary for his parents to. His parents should apologize, explain that they were wrong and why, and be honest with him from that point onward.
[ Because Bones is honest with everyone, whether it's nice or not. ]
Around...oh! You mean because of Santa Claus? Well, since he is real in our world, that's technically not a lie.
[Small pause as she thinks it over.]
I like that train of thought, ma'm, even if it might be hard sometimes. If only because the kid might not understand the truth. At the moment...well, they can't really lie to him so that might solve a few things.
In my world, he's a fictional character based on myths that are actually very violent and threatening but the vast majority of people aren't aware of the origins of Santa Claus, so they have no problems teaching their children falsified information.
Children will never learn to understand things if you simply attempt to hide it from them all the time. I think that's a very good solution, though I'm not sure why they wouldn't be capable of lying.

I try to make sure he knows lying is bad. Maybe this will help a little. Somehow.

Well mostly they were little white lies. Like where do babies come from and why you need to eat your spinach.
Uhm...they made a bet.
[Yeah, she can still lie. It's just the Turners that can't!]
And lost.

What was the secret?

[Of course without that lie Timmy would have never gotten God Parents but besides the point.]
His parents said they'd gone off to parts unknown forever because he hadn't eaten his dinner.

And telling him that some lies are good and others bad isn't working?

It's sort of hard to explain it when he feels so bad about being lied to in the first place.
Parents are supposed to lie about some stuff, but...well I'm still trying to figure out just how to explain that.
