I think they were wrong in telling that lie. A kid shouldn't have to worry about leaving his parents.

Usually they don't find out until they're teenagers so it's not that much of a problem then.
They just rebel for a few years and get over it.

A kid shouldn't be told he'll be taken away. How are they suppose to feel safe if they don't feel safe in their own home?

A lot of parents tend to use it. It's not right or fair but it seems to work at some level. For a little while.
I wish there was an easier way to deal with this; besides just wishing for his parents to tell the truth.

I think THEY need to talk with him. It's kind that you're trying to help but how can he trust them if they're not the ones handling it?
