Dragon pox. There's a cure but they were too old.

[Severus recognizes the scene. He can remember straining to see around others, trying to understand what was going on. Since Slytherin's table was the farthest from Gryffindor's it had been difficult but finally someone passed word down their table - James Potter had received a black envelope from a black owl.

A death notice.

At the time, Severus had almost sneered, thinking to himself how it served Potter right - that perfect life of his wasn't so perfect anymore. But, now, as he watches the scene play out as a much older man he can't help but feel both a pang of guilt and a pang of sympathy.

He watches the scene to its conclusion and shakes his head. He has no idea that he can be seen watching.]

[Voice] The next day

Going to laugh at me this time too?

[Peter watched James leave the Great Hall. An uneasy feeling in his gut as he turned to look at the others around him]

D-do you think...uhm...who do you think it was?

[She had excused herself from her friends to join in the Marauders' chat, looking very concerned. Having seen quite a few of those messengers come in to deliver bad news since her first year, she was no longer confused of the news these owls brought. Still, it didn't make it any easier to watch. It felt even worse when she knew the recipient....]

Perhaps an old family friend? Or a... a close relative. That might be the most... likely answer. [Her eyes flicked over to the doors of the Great Hall, as if expecting James to come walking back in.

[Sirius is twisting a napkin anxiously, because there's a nagging worry in his gut for James and for wondering whose name was on the letter.]

Maybe it's a grandparent. I don't know if he has any of them left.

I think someone should go after him. Even if it's not all of us... Letters like that one are never a good thing, regardless of who it's for.

[Black is always seen as such a bad sign. That seems especially true when every one else in the room falls silent at the sight of it.

Ferb is honestly quiet for several moments before he narrows his brow and shuts off the feed.]

[A few moments later a portal opens up and Ferb steps through. He glances around for a second to realize he's out by a lake and there is an enormous castle behind him. The portal closes and he blinks before searching around for a ruffled head of hair.

He finally spots him and walks towards James. He doesn't hesitate and puts a hand on James shoulder.]

[James turns, surprised to see Ferb, but doesn't say anything. He's too busy looking back down at the black envelope in his hands.]
