[Faramir of Gondor had seen many strange things during his lifetime, but he had never seen anything like the communicator before. With a slight frown on his handsome features, he turned the device over and over in his hands.]

What manner of magic is this? It is like no sorcery I have seen before.

[It could only be sorcery, after all. The device ( Read more... )

How is it that I could see you, and hear your voice?

That is the power of this device. I do not understand how it works.

I must confess that I, too, know nothing of how this works. Nor do I know if having it in my keeping is a blessing or curse.

Then it would seem that we are not as alone as I believed.

May I know to whom I am speaking?

No one's seeking to corrupt anyone. We have no control over the community. But the community is more or less a form of communication between people.

[With agents of the enemy spreading throughout Middle-earth, it was difficult to know who to trust. Faramir frowned slightly, regarding the strange device that was now speaking to him in a voice he did not recognise.]

Then what is your purpose?

[Since he seems so distrusting of her and this place she turns on her own video. There's nothing interesting in her background, just woods.]

Mine? I'm just letting you know the people here aren't an enemy.

I am glad to hear it. [And, in time, he may even come to believe it.] Gondor has need of friends, not enemies.

May I ask your name?

Don't know much dark magic.

Though you know enough to use this device to speak to me?

I doubt it's dark magic. It's just a library book.

To you, perhaps, but the device in my hands is no book.

[... Faramir of Gondor. Faramir of Gondor, captain of the White Tower. Is seriously on the community. Please hold, England will just be taking a moment to walk away from the computer, be skeptical about it, spazz in secret excitement a few moments later, then come back.]

If it really was dark magic, then I think we'd all equally be victims here. But as it is I think you're safe from any corruption. All this community really is is a way to communicate, albeit a fairly forceful and mysterious one.

I have learned not to trust unseen forces of great power. [Or innocuous objects that hold great power, of course.] Why does it wish for us to communicate?

That's probably wise in the long run. As to why, no one really knows. There's no real design to any of it as far as anyone's been able to tell, and if there is some intelligence behind the whole thing, no one's ever been able to communicate with it or figure out what it is, or if it's even there.

This is a communication device, not dark magic.

And with whom am I communicating?

Fire Lord Azula of the Fire Nation. You're not going to recognize that.

No, I do not. It is not a name given to any of the kingdoms of Arda.
