If it really was dark magic, then I think we'd all equally be victims here. But as it is I think you're safe from any corruption. All this community really is is a way to communicate, albeit a fairly forceful and mysterious one.

I have learned not to trust unseen forces of great power. [Or innocuous objects that hold great power, of course.] Why does it wish for us to communicate?

That's probably wise in the long run. As to why, no one really knows. There's no real design to any of it as far as anyone's been able to tell, and if there is some intelligence behind the whole thing, no one's ever been able to communicate with it or figure out what it is, or if it's even there.
