Sales taxes are probably easier to get around than income tax. Any specific industry that can effectively lobby that it needs an exemption in order to boost the overall economy can create all the necessary loopholes to keep the division between the upper 10% and everyone else clearly defined. For example: Any SUV over 8600 lbs is tax deductible thanks to weight defining it as a "commercial" vehicle and thus a needed tool for farmers, etc.. I've never seen anyone farm with a Cadillac SUV sitting on 22"s but we're Americans and common sense isn't common practice.
It doesn't matter what sort of taxation system you have. What matters is the regulation of that tax system against the influences of special interest groups. Both parties grant favors to these groups. The Republicans are just very blatant about it. Of course I would be too if my constituency was composed of 250 million + idiots.
I like you even more all the time. I expected nothing more than flames to be coming from this post but you actually put some thought into your response.
It stands to reason all those special interest groups get so much attention. I'd give it to them too if I was getting a fat cut as well.
