Very creepy. Nice imagery and texture. You conjure up so much back-story in the small details that I don't need to know exactly where they come from, or what will happen next, to appreciate the present. Nice bit of 'show, not tell'.
As for rating, personally I think you could go for PG. After all, think about what happens in fairy tales and computer games. *g* They can be pretty cruel and gory.
