Thought I'd let folks know that I finally got an answer regarding my previous post on the availability of rooms in downtown hilton brand hotels; these hotels had simply not opened their blocks yet

Thanks for the Info, I just booked a room for 229 a night that can be cancelled up to 24 hours before check in. This will serve great as a backup in case I lose out on the land grab at the host hotels.

I've managed to get a host hotel room for the past 15 years, this is the first year I've felt the need to get a backup room. /sigh

I'm in the same boat. Feeling extra anxious this year, though we've always been in the Marriott in the past. I got a backup at the Hampton Inn, too.

Same here. But hooray for backup rooms!

If it makes you feel any better, a friend of mine managed to get a room for the weekend at the Hilton 3 days before con this year for $250/night. So keep checkin'. I will. :)

I called last night about host Hilton and the rep said the garden inn was available. So there are different stories depending on which rep you get.
