rossetti and his women

I've been thinking a lot more about my novel that I'm planning. Thus far all I have decided is that I want it to be about Rossetti's relationships with Lizzie Siddal and Fanny Cornforth (see my icon!) and also the rivalry between the two. There's no evidence that they ever met, but that's what fiction's for, right? I'm thinking of setting it ( Read more... )

Is your icon/last two pics of Fanny not of Alexa Wilding? Your icon definitely is.

I love Lizzie, she is so underrated. Her own paintings are really nice in a naive sort of way.

The last two pictures are of Fanny. The Lady Lilith portrait may have been repainted as Alexa Wilding as was Venus Verticordia but I'm pretty sure the original model was Fanny. She certainly modelled for the pose etc. That's Fanny!

I'm not sure you can described Lizzie as underrated! She's definitely the most talked about pre-Raphaelite woman. There are fansites devoted to her! And her famous portrait of herself is slightly disturbing - the eyes are so dead D:

Oh yeah, the painting you just linked to is definitely Fanny. The painting of the prostitute (called Found?) is of Fanny, I know that.

Hmm, I've only ever come across people talking about Jane and Alexa. Her paintings are kind of strange (though that's unsurprising) but I like them. You should go to the Birmingham art gallery, it is amazing for Pre-Raphaelites! It has lots of Burne-Jones stuff, and sells Victorian-style jewellery and wallpaper and books on Jane Morris and all sorts.

Hmm, that's strange. I have heard a lot of talk about Jane, but very little about Alexa indeed! Fanny Cornforth and Annie Miller are seemingly never spoken of. If I could fit Annie Miller into my book I would do. She had an interesting story.

If ever I find myself in Birmingham I will most certainly do that ;)

This is really cool. I love the paintings from this period but really don't know anything about them, so thanks for sharing!

I'm slightly obsessive with the Pre-Raphaelites/Arts & Crafts folk and I try to read up on them whenever I can, but through researching for my novel I've learnt quite a lot! They were an interesting bunch.

I'm not a huge fan of Rossetti but I can appreciate his work. That first picture is amazing! :-D And I thought my hair was really long (it's down to the backs of my thighs), but I guess I have a long way to go, ha ha ha!

I'm a demented crazy Rossetti fan, although I'm not sure why. Just something about his work really captures my imagination!

My hair's only about to my breastbone so I've got a really long way to go before I have perfect Pre-Raphaelite waves ;)

That's how I am about Waterhouse and EB Leighton. Their works just make me sit back and sigh. ;-)

I have to keep it in braids for a while to get it to wave properly! Someday I want a medieval style gown so I can look like an old painting, lol.

Lol, indeed. I'm looking forward to hearing more about your story. :)
