DC is losing me...

Even an intriguing Batman development isn't hooking me the way Marvel is. I picked up She-Hulk #1 on a lark and... it is so... FUN! DC just isn't anymore. There are some decent stories. There are some intriguing developments. But even the best stuff they're putting out doesn't have me on the edge of my seat, counting down the days to the next issue ( Read more... )

I gave the New52 two years and I'm just not into them. I miss Stephanie. I miss Babs as Oracle. I miss Tim being Tim and not a robot. And Kon, don't even get me started on Kon. I'm going to dump them all except Swamp Thing, which, in my opinion should never have been taken out of Vertigo.

I pretty much read only Xbooks at Marvel (have since Uncanny was the only book!) and they're just so much more interesting. While a hell of a lot has changed over recent years, there's been no reboot per se, no doing away with story lines from twenty years ago. I still don't see why DC had to screw around with that (getting rid of the numbering of Action and Detective were travesties for one thing).

Gonna save a heck of a lot of money.

I haven't read X-Men since the Claremont era. I quit when they were in the Outback, at a point when every issue an X-Man either died, returned to life, left the team, or joined it. I think Rogue had just come back from her jaunt through the Siege Perilous when I gave up ( ... )

I don't quite understand why DC isn't fun anymore, but it isn't! Maybe it's simply a time thing, maybe inevitably comics become less fun as canon moves forward away from the time that was "ours"? Maybe there's a whole new generation of comic book fans falling in love with this configuration of these characters? I can't quite imagine it, but there does seem to be a cyclical "changing of the guard" in comic book fandom...

You may have something there. Again, the reason I keep trying to hold on is because if I lose interest in the canon, I worry that I'll abandon the fandom with an epic WIP on permanent hiatus. The truth is, the canon really hasn't fed the fic for a very long time. I've worked in some details from OYL in earlier installments (Dodge trying to help the Bats, Bart becoming Flash for a time, Kid Devil and Miss Martian with the TT. And, of course, bringing in some elements/characters that pop up later in Batman Beyond.) However, since the reboot, I can't think of a single thing that I worked in specifically from the Nu52. I'm not saying there aren't any. But nothing that springs to mind.

I've heard that DC sales are up, but I don't know if that's in general or pertaining to some event. I just don't know.

Some of DC is fun but then, they forbid Batwoman from marrying because they felt marriage would kill a comic? Or some such nonsense ( ... )

I have to go out of my way now to get to an LCS. I use Comixology. (Long story, but, I used to work downtown and there were 3 LCS's I could get to on my lunch break. I used to read the books on the walk back to the office. Then work moved to the suburbs and I was faced with a 15-20 minute bus ride (not counting waiting time, walking to bus stop time) to get to the nearest shop, and the same to return. One of the owners of my favorite LCS lived in that suburb and every other week, she'd deliver the comics on my break. I got used to not going into the story. She'd email me the list of new releases a month before they came out and I'd tell her what I wanted ( ... )

I'm in the same place. When I started buying comics again, my pull list was tons of DC and one Vertigo title. Then for a while it was tons of DC and one Marvel book. Right now the only reason DC still outnumbers Marvel in my folder is the technicality that DC owns Vertigo.
