It is done. ealdthryth disconnected the cable converter box and will be taking it back to Charter today. Although I may temporarily have a void in my life from the lack of television viewing choice, I'm sure I can find something else more prodctive to do to fill the time. The combination of cable television and a DVR pretty much turned us into couch ( Read more... )

I am calling Directv and disconnecting us from the idiot box as well. And Saunooke was so excited about that new sci-fi series that "Samantha Carter" from Stargate is going to be in.....

I lived without cable television for a long time. My parents had it when I was in high school, but while I was in college, through grad school, and up until ealdthryth and I moved to the new house, I lived without it--roughly 15 or 16 years?

I'm sure I can manage....

Your schedule has a lot to do with not getting together with people. I know we have invited you two to join us a bunch of times but Ealdthryth had to work or you had University stuff or something. Life happens and we all get busy which just makes it hard to be social. I know that we hardly ever do anything anymore since the house sucks up all of our spare time.

I'm sure it certainly seems like ealdthryth is perpetually busy in the evenings, and the timing for quasi-random get-togethers seems to crop up about the time I have to be busy with other things. However, the phenomenon isn't really all that recent--it seems to have been the case for much more than a year.

I think the last time remember being invited to something was for July 4th. Before that, I actually don't recall. It may have been the New Year's BSU....or one of Lucien's CBIP parties (neither of which we were available for). Hmmmmm.

The point isn't so much invitations, but that us getting visitors seems to be a major event that requires planning and upheavals of scheduling.

Note that it will take about a month to 'spin up' the new particle accelerator at CERN, so we have a brief reprieve before creation of black holes commences and we obliterate ourselves (bwa ha ha)
