Have a fact you want to double-check? A theory you want to sanity check? Here's the place to post it.

Ambient Conversation After the End ladymal February 5 2015, 22:04:38 UTC
Moving this over to the new thread.

[Spoiler (click to open)] There's an ambient conversation in Val Royeaux involving an elven servant. Does anyone know exactly what is said? I can't find it anywhere and he's not showing up in my completed playthroughs for some reason :(.

This week in Mina Whines About Writing: what's the most difficult thing for you to write?

For me, it's smut. HANDS DOWN. It's incredibly difficult and I marvel at others who manage to churn it out seemingly without effort.

(This means, obliquely, that I have a smut-in-progress and am just sighing at it, wishing it'd write itself.)

Long fic. My natural story length seems to run in the 1-4K range. Anything longer than that, and I begin to struggle. I think it's a case of being okay with going A->B->C but if you ask me to go past G, it becomes a trial.

(That said: most of my fic ideas recently have been of the long type. I don't know if it's me evolving as a writer or just 'shoot me now')

Tongue in cheek, second most difficult thing for me to write are David Gaider characters, and yet I KEEP DOING IT WHY.

Weirdly enough, smut I have no trouble with, unless it's running out of euphemisms without getting too repetitive. :o) That's my biggest challenge with it.

I'm fairly similar - it used to be that I'd never write anything longform or multichapter. All of my other fandom things are 1k words or under. Mostly drabbles hitting the 500 word mark.

And then Dragon Age happened. Now I have ideas. And ideas within ideas. And I find if I explore them, suddenly a multichapter thing just HAPPENS, and the difficulty is maintaining the thread of cohesion that runs through it, juggling theme and symbolism and making sure I don't fuck it up somehow.

I wish we could pool talents - wouldn't that be magically easy?

Beta requests/offers tersa February 5 2015, 21:41:30 UTC
Looking for a beta reader? Want to offer to be a beta reader?

- Requesters, give a vague note of the characters/central romance involved in your story and what its generally about (gen, romance, angst, smut/PWP) and if there are any potential triggers/squicks

- Beta offers, make a note if there's anything you'd prefer not to read, both character/romance wise, story type, squicks

I'll keep an eye on the thread and if someone posts looking for someone and earlier or later a beta matches, I'll see about hooking you up.
