Oh Ianto...

Feb 21, 2008 11:33

I took the day off work yesterday because I was utterly desperate to have a day ALONE. I have been going to into full introvert-panic mode because Dustin has been home so much recently and I spent all weekend at the con with 1000 people.

And so, of course, Dustin took the day off work too. )

I'm exactly the same way with sharing space. I do well, socially, but after about 8-10 hours at work or whatever, I need to be alone and recharge. And being alone in one room with another person in the living room watching tv or something just doesn't cut it. I need to know no one's going to walk in or knock on my door or pay attention to me while I cook or take note of what I'm watching/reading/listening to. Maybe it does sound psychotic, but there's not much to do about it, y'know? It's just hard to relax when a part of your attention is focused on not being disturbed by that other person.

I can't tell you how happy I am you said that. It really does make me feel like a freak- I think real, genuine introversion is more rare in the population than people realize, and so many people can't tell the difference between that and just "being shy," which I'm not.

It's like, there's a part of your brain that ALWAYS has to be DEALING with the fact that there is another person around, and it just can't ever relax. And... well, I just desperately need regular breaks from that.

Exactly! *hugs* I'm so glad to hear it from another person, because it seems so weird and borderline paronoid to most people. When I was living with my parents, I'd drive into the next city a few times a year and stay in a hotel room for a few days, just to be able to really be alone for a while. It was always such a relief.

And because everything always reminds me of something I've read at one time or another, here's a nice article on the interovert-extrovert divide: http://www.theatlantic.com/doc/200303/rauch.

That is the best article ever. I have a desperate desire to forward it to all the people I've offended with "I love you, really, but GO AWAY."

>Are introverts arrogant? Hardly. I suppose this common misconception has to do with our being more intelligent, more reflective, more independent, more level-headed, more refined, and more sensitive than extroverts.

BWAH! Plus he makes the introvert-actor connection (random factoid: One of my favorite things about Jensen is that he has talked in interviews several times about being shy (though that is probably the wrong word for it) and why that actually goes with being an actor very well).

I want to send this author ROSES. Thank you!
