The Sleepy Thoughts

Last night it took me over an hour to finally get to sleep.  This was largely due to the fact that my brain was in overdrive even though my body was exhausted.    Different, random thoughts and questions were flitting through, making themselves known and threatening to brand themselves into my grey matter if I did not get them out in some form.  ( Read more... )

I can answer one for you! One of the reading comprehension exercises I did when I taught Reading Lab (yes, it is as bad as it sounds, but I like to think I made a difference with some of the kids), was a history of April Fool's day. Traditionally in some European culture, April 1st was the first day of the year. People gave gifts and had a lovely spring day of it. Then the Powers That Be (probably the Roman Catholic Church, since it was continent-wide and close to Christmas) decided on our current New Years Day. As a result, traditionalists who chose to continue to celebrate the original New Year were called Fools, and tricks were played on them.
