Wednesday is a hard day for me anyway, since I start so early and end so late, but this Wednesday I just kinda want to curl up and die. Stupid weather. Stupid looming exams. Stupid existential crisis.

I am apparently incapable of writing anything. Hooray!

magistrate: I want to write a fic with hefty emotional/moral/political/historical issues ( Read more... )

That's why I didn't decide to progress in middle egyptian. The symbol dictionaries are in French and German, and those dictionaries remain, for some reason, untranslated and inaccessible in a digital formt (meaning you have to troop back to the Oriental Institute when you want to do major translation work, wherever you're based). So one has to learn greek for demotic translations, arabic for a lot of the scholarship which, naturally, isn't translated, and french and german to use a dictionary.... and that's for Middle Egpytian, not even counting a more exotic specialty like Demotic/Coptic Liturgical, Old Egyptian, or
varrients.

Part of me wants to go out and freakin' develop a new online rosetta stone/major massive dictionary. Part of me thinks that'd be way too much work.

If you wanted to make a long-term project out of the Egyptian thing, Sam and I could translate the German and French, respectively. Over long periods of time. After next semester when I relearn my French. Yes. I'm not helping here, am I?

Careful what you say--I may just be crazy enough to take you up on it.

I'm aware of this, and as long as you're aware that the offer, if taken up on (er, weird grammar), will take me YEARS to do. So. Be careful what offers you accept. :P

The magibrain doesn't want me to translate all your Greek for you? *feels unloved and useless*

If you're willing to put up with my random complaints about bizarre grammatical structures and my love/hate relationship with Ionic dialect, I can totally translate. Or teach you bare bones grammar, enough to cobble together your sociolect. Because Ancient Greek is awesome. And because you already have enough to do without having to spend too much time on this.

I still use and love you! ...wait; that came out wrong.

Man, if you're willing to endure my ranting about Sanskrit, I can endure your ranting about Greek. That's what we should do. We should have nice, civilized evenings where we get together, enjoy tea and scones, and spin off vitriolic diatribes about our languages of choice.
