Winter Sports Thingie Stuff

I've been *trying* to get into the spirit of the Winter Olympics - but without a huge amount of success. NBC's coverage has been less than spectacular and uneven - concentrating too much on 'American crap' and less on the games. I really wish they would actually show the Olympic sports rather than "inspirational" stories about the sports. Ugh.

We don't have any broadcast TV service anyway. Though I might consider building a Hoverman planar array sometime.

You hit it - the IOC is one THE most corrupt organizations out there. Its all about the MOST $$$ and having total control.

I agree - the Figure Skating judging just doesn't make sense. How can someone who fell and then slid on their ass across the ice be ranked so much higher than someone who performed all the elements cleanly?

It defies my sense of logic and so - no more ice skating for me.

Not to mention the absurdity of having removed the compulsory figures from figure skating. What's next, removing the jump from the ski jump?

I'd call it "uneven" - I was watching curling yesterday (they've got it on CNBC - won't help the cable-less Doctor...), and the announcers really had it together, one was offering insight into strategy, and they knew when to shut up. I wince every time the figure-skating announcers open their mouths, though. There seem to be a lot of commercials - and it's the same commercials, over and over and over - and it's a legitimate grouse that they're limiting access to their internet feed to not even "only cable subscribers", but "only subscribers of cable companies that have paid us for the privilege ( ... )

only time i'm catching anything Olympic related is if i'm at a place that has it on the tv. its usually canadian tilted so don't mind. the only events i plan on watching is the hockey. ;) and thats only if i'm around home and its convenient.
