Working is better than thinking.

Dr. Schreber hasn't slept much in the night, not since Dr. Crane pinpointed out again. He's aware of John coming to the labs all too soon, and there's plenty to do to get ready. There's no taking memes, no checking the Nexus, only chipping away at the looming to-do list. The idea of taking a sample from John's mind terrifies him in a way that doing that to anyone else never has. John is the only one that has any real idea what things were like before, and he's also the only one who has the right to run the city. John is a friend, and if Schreber makes one mistake, he could destroy him. Preparing things for this would be a lot easier if his hands would stop shaking.
He has to sit down a lot, and take an extra pill for his heart, but he's worked under worse physical conditions before. He gets through the day, and remembers to eat a little, and keeps Orwell calm. The raven is a little jumpy still, whether he can actually remember what happened last night or not. Schreber has a very good internal clock, and his pocket watch is still set to city time. As evening gets on, he checks it more often, and fusses over the equipment a last time. With Orwell on his shoulder, he limps out, and locks the door very carefully behind him.
