"Okay." Clark stands as well and motions for her to follow him into the kitchen proper. "This is different than heat vision, obviously. The first couple of times it happened to me it was almost like it was triggered just by doing some kind of physical activity, but I've never really been certain if that had anything to do with it. Anyway, where heat vision is more of a burning feeling, this is just kind of a strain, if that makes any sense."
He shrugs and gives her a small smile. "I pretty much do it just by thinking I'd like to see through something. Once you get control of just getting it to start when you want, then you can vary the degree of how strong it gets."
Clark raises an eyebrow. "Because otherwise, you're invading people's privacy. Random objects are fine, but I don't use it on actual peope unless I think I have to. Oh, and you can't see through lead, no matter how hard you try."
"Yeah, yeah." She waves a hand. "C'mon, you're not telling me you've never peeked at things you shouldn't. Not even by accident when you were still learning?"
He's not letting up that easily. "It's just like with the hearing. I don't go around listening in on people's conversations, again, unless I think I need to. Well, except for Chloe, but I can't help that."
"Chloe. I hear her all the time if she's within range. Can barely shut her out even when I try," he shrugs. "It's always been like that, although it's mostly just her heartbeat now."
"I guess. I'm used to it by now." He's not going to mention it's kind of nice having that underlying sound in his head most of the time. He's not that stupid.
"That one," he continues, utterly oblivious, "I have no idea how to trigger it for you. It happened to me when I was blinded temporarily. Overcompensation or something."
He eyes Anna thoughtfully. "Maybe we could try a blindfold, see if that does anything. You just, you know, couldn't look through it."
"Huh. Well, I seem to have gotten the hang of the x-ray vision ridiculously easily. Maybe the hearing'll follow suit."
With a shrug - and a quick glance through Clark's shirt, just to check that she has the vision working as well as she thinks she does, of course - Anna tilts her head to the side and... listens.

She remembers the feel of squinting at her stack of books, and looks carefully at the sink.
Frown.
Nothing happens for a moment, then she blinks and shakes her head.
"That's vaguely disturbing," announces Anna wryly. "And I have no idea how I'm going to keep myself from abusing it horribly."

Beat.
"And I wasn't on red K."

"You're made of sterner stuff than I, cheri," she says mock-solemnly, smirking at him.

She tries to look mischievous, and mostly ends up looking ruefully contrite.

"You can't help what, exactly?"

She finds this mildly worrying, but doesn't want to cause unnecessary strife by saying so.

And listens.
Nothing seems to be happening quite yet.
